Work got underway at Ayr Racecourse this week as our lads and lasses started to erect some of the many marquees that we will be on hire for the Scottish Grand National 2011 Meeting which takes place on April 16th this year.
As you will see from the photographs the weather has been kind to us down on the Ayrshire coast, giving us an opportunity to work unrestricted and we should have the first phase work completed by the 6th of April and the final phase finishing on the 12th, this gives us 2 full days before the first races on Friday the 15th of April.
Some of the hire marquees used for this race meeting will stay on site for the season providing hospitality and catering areas for the many corporate hospitality guests the racecourse has throughout the spring and summer, while others will be taken down, washed and used again all the way through the season, our involvement in music and arts festivals and a full summer sporting calendar to cover, they will be put to good use protecting people from another Scottish summer, not to mention those of you going to a wedding or two in one of our marquees.
Purvis Marquees will again be sponsoring the first race of the day, which is called (funnily enough), The Purvis Marquees Handicap. This race comes right at the beginning of the marquee hire season in Scotland, and lets our teams know, they are under starters orders as 2011 looks like being a bumper year for us here at Purvis Marquee Hire.
Always up for a challenge, John Brown, General Manager at Purvis Marquees said, "It was touch and go with the tent at the airport as the high winds on the day were causing some concern, then the winds dropped in the morning, The Pope arrived and all went like clockwork, all the teams at Purvis worked their socks off to make this historic event happen." He added, "Over the years we have provided marquees for heads of state, celebrities and dignitaries, but this was the highest profile meeting in a Purvis marquee to date, we are all extremely proud to have been given this honour."
You can talk to John and the team at Purvis Marquees by calling 0131 335 3685, they will be happy to help with, marquee hire, wedding marquees and storage and industrial marquees.
Purvis Plan Pope's Visit to Edinburgh
Purvis Marquees were heavily involved in the pre planning and delivery of arrangements for the 2010 Papal Visit.
As Scottish supplier of Marquees and Tents to HM the Queen, Purvis was chosen to provide marquees for the Pope's meeting with Her Majesty and HRH Prince Philip.
With a vast experience of working with the Royal Household, Purvis's knowledge of royal protocol was called upon in providing three marquees for the visit. One was on the tarmac at Edinburgh International Airport, which provided an area for the Pope to be received by Prince Philip, and two were at The Palace of Holyrood House. One was used to protect the Pope and Queen from the elements as they made their historic speeches and the 2nd marquee was erected in the gardens of the palace to provide shelter and refreshments for the assembled dignitaries.
It was a busy week for Purvis Marquees with the Papal Visit 2010, The Great North Run, Ayr Gold Cup at Ayr Racecourse, a Large tent to be used as a temporary factory in Fife and a couple of weddings.
Dear John and Gordon
We remain very grateful to you for the remarkable job you and your team delivered in the face of appalling weather conditions in erecting us such a splendid marquee at Edinburgh airport for the Pope's arrival. It was first rate, exactly what was required and it was a real pleasure to work with you on this historic project.
Thank you, Best wishes
