History
Founded in 1968 by Gordon Pratt, Purvis grew steadily until 1976 when it was able to purchase The Gourock Rope Works on the river Clyde. The Port Glasgow firm had a huge canvas manufacturing capacity and was an industry leader in the fabrication of air supported structures.
Later the company purchased Davies Bryon and Co., a leading manufacturer and hirer of marquees in Northern England.
They spotted the trend in the market and moves towards the production of new high technology tension structures where beginning to be designed.
In 1985, Leigh Flexible structures and the Firmin Group where acquired. This further addition gave them the manufacturing capacity to produce anything from a small one-man tent to the largest tent in the world, for which they have an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
The 90's saw the incorporation of Birchwood Marquees, Alpha Marquees, Chester Canvas and J R Clapham, all in northern England.
This expansion has enabled the group to win contracts globally.
The Royal Master of Royal Household has recently granted Purvis Marquees a further term as suppliers to Her Majesty The Queen.
